England come from behind to reach quarter-finals
England came from behind to beat USA and reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup after Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis won the deciding doubles encounter.
The pair beat Darin Young and Larry Butler 4-1 in the doubles match after the Americans had forced a decider when Lewis was beaten 4-1 by Young in the singles.
Taylor beat Butler 4-1 in the opening singles match. 'The Power' took the first leg on double eight, but Butler levelled by landing double 16.
Butler squandered an opportunity to break after missing tops for a 110 finish. Taylor, who had previously missed double 16, took the leg to move 2-1 ahead. He then took the next leg on double top and completed victory with a 70 finish on double four.
With Lewis suffering a surprise defeat, he and Taylor were forced to return to the oche for the doubles match. After USA made it 1-1, Taylor and Lewis won the following three legs to reach the last eight.
The Dutch duo of Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld both won their singles games 4-1 to send the Netherlands through to the quarter-finals.
Scotland beat Sweden 2-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals, with Australia defeating Hong Kong 2-1. There were also wins for Wales, South Africa, Belgium and Northern Ireland.
