Taylor: I'm back with a vengeance

Phil Taylor says he suffered sleepless nights over his poor form during a "nightmare" six months but believes he has put it all behind him after winning his 15th World Matchplay title.

Taylor thrashed world champion and world No.1 Michael Van Gerwen 19-8 on Sunday, even pulling off a nine-dart finish in a devastating display that reduced the Dutchman to tears.

"I don't think people understand what I've been through," the 16-time world champion told the Sun. "My lack of form has kept me up all night with worry.

"I've had a nightmare for the last six months and it was so embarrassing for me - the worst time in my career.

"I've been ridiculed on the street, getting stick and I'd never had that before - but Phil Taylor is back with a vengeance.

"I've played rubbish this year but everything has come together, my equipment is right and I think I can do better averages than ever before."

Taylor, 53, now hopes to carry his rediscovered form into the other major tournaments including the 2015 World Championship.

"I want to get back to world No.1 and win back the world title," added Taylor. "Not because people have been writing me off but to prove to myself I can do it."
