Anderson stuns Whitlock in Sydney

Kyle Anderson shocked Simon Whitlock 8-3 to secure the biggest win of his career in the quarter-finals of the Sydney Darts Masters.

Having come back from behind to knock out Raymond van Barneveld on Thursday, Anderson followed up with a shock win against his fellow Australian.

Anderson took a 3-0 lead at the Hordern Pavilion before Whitlock fought back to close the gap to 4-3.

However, Whitlock blew a chance to level in the eighth leg with Anderson hitting double seven to go 5-3 ahead before wrapping up the victory.

"It feels brilliant," said Anderson. "It's the most significant win of my career so far.

"I knew that I had to start well tonight because Simon's a great player, but he missed a few doubles in the opening couple of legs and I took mine, and I just ran with it from there.

"Once I got the first couple of legs I didn't want to let him back in. He got a couple of legs but I kept it going and went all the way."

Anderson next faces reigning champion Phil Taylor in Saturday's semi-finals after the 16-time world champion averaged 110 to record an 8-2 win over Dave Chisnall, who hit four 180s and averaged 101.

"I'm delighted to get through that game," said Taylor. "Dave kept fighting back and you can't afford to let him off the hook, and I was trying my socks off tonight.

"I'm here to win the tournament and somebody's going to have to play very well to beat me. It's a new day tomorrow and I can't wait for it."

Elsewhere, James Wade secured an 8-2 victory over Warren Parry, who was unable to follow up his first-round comeback against world champion Michael van Gerwen.

Wade will face Stephen Bunting after the World Series of Darts debutant edged Peter Wright 8-6.
