Gary Anderson capped off a perfect St Andrew's Day with victory in the Players Championship final.

Anderson, from Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders, demolished Adrian Lewis 11-6 in a performance filled with accuracy and heavy-scoring in front of a packed Butlins Minehead.

No.1 seed Anderson was understandably delighted as he claimed his fourth major TV title and the winner's cheque of £65,000, while Lewis was left to rue an evening on which his radar was uncharacteristically wayward.

"This has taken a while," said Anderson, who saw off three-time champion Phil Taylor in the quarter-finals earlier on Sunday. "I beat Phil in 2007 and I've paid the price every since. I won in the Premier League, which was brilliant, and then I've beaten Phil this weekend and gone onto win it.

"I don't think anyone else has done that, have they? That's me happy now."

World No.3 Lewis struggled to match the scoring power of Anderson, averaging just over 95 to the Scot's impressive 101. He was on the back foot from the first leg as Anderson broke with a 14-darter, before racing to an 8-3 lead.

Anderson put himself on the brink of the title with a 76 finish to move to 10-6 up and then wasted little time in securing the win with a stylish 118 checkout.

"Fair play to Gary, he took his chances well," Lewis said. "After the weekend I've had, I'm lucky to get to the final to be fair after what's been going on back home. But Gary's world No.1 in the rankings coming into this tournament, so fair play to him."

In the evening session's earlier action, Lewis sealed his place in the final with an 11-6 victory over Wes Newton, while Anderson overcame Vincent van der Voort 11-7.
