Exeter and England flanker Tom Johnson is set to return to action next week for Chiefs' A team, having not played all season with a neck injury.

Johnson last played when he started at No.8 for England in their tour match against Crusaders in Christchurch in June. He also came off the bench in the opening Test match of that tour, which England lost 3-0.

"Tom Johnson is probably going to play in our A League game next week," head coach Rob Baxter told BBC Devon.

Exeter's second-string head to Wasps on Monday December 22 for their penultimate Premiership A League game and Johnson is likely to appear.

32-year-old Johnson, who was the first Chiefs player to represent England after their promotion to the Premiership in 2010, has a total of eight caps for his country.
