Profile

Valerio Bernabò is a verstaile lock who has regularly fallen in and out of favour with the Italian national side. After skippering the U21s, Bernabò was handed his first Azzurri cap as a 20-year-old in a clash with the United States in November 2004.

He featured again the following autumn but was then overlooked for the next couple of seasons before becoming a permanent fixture in the Italy squad during 2007. Indeed, he made two appearances as a substitute in that year's World Cup finals in France, against New Zealand and Romania.

However, three years in the international wilderness then followed before he again featured as a replacement in the 2010 Six Nations clash with Wales. Bernabò continued to remain on the fringes of the squad but he made four appearances in the 2011 Six Nations, including a start against England at Twickenham, and was in May included in Nick Mallett's Rugby Cup training camp in Cesena.
