Leicester's New Zealand-born wing has quickly established himself as 'Mr Reliable' since joining in the autumn of 2008. Last season (2009-10) the wing or fullback appeared in 32 games during a campaign that saw the Tigers retain the Premiership crown.
Hamilton was raised in Christchurch but did not gain national honours at schoolboy level. He began to climb the New Zealand rankings when he joined Canterbury Crusaders in 2003, culminating in winning two caps for the All Blacks during the 2006 season, making a try-scoring debut, against Argentina.
His lack of international opportunities after those games, against the Pumas and South Africa, helped his decision to join Leicester in 2008. He immediately helped the Tigers to the 2009 Premiership title to complete a 12-month period which also saw him part of the Crusaders' triumphant Super 14 squad and Canterbury's National Provincial Championship winners.
That first season at Leicester brought him immediate recognition when supporters named him 'newcomer of the year' for a campaign that brought him 10 tries in 22 games. He returned equally impressive figures in the 2009-10 when he scored seven more tries and played in all 24 Premiership fixtures.
