Profile

Quittenton refereed 20 Test matches during his career, including games at the inaugural Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 1987. As with many officials, his career was marked by a high-profile event, namely the awarding of the winning penalty to New Zealand as they beat Wales 12-10 in Cardiff in 1978. All Blacks lock Andy Haden dived from the line in an attempt to con the official and while Quittenton actually penalised Wales' Geoff Wheel for a push on Frank Oliver, the moment has become infamous.
