Chris Paterson has been recalled to the Scotland squad after recovering from the kidney injury he sustained while winning his 100th cap against Wales in February.

The Edinburgh utility back has returned to pre-season training with his club after completing a rehabilitation period. In his absence Scotland ended the Six Nations on a rousing note, beating Ireland in Dublin, and also secured a historic series win over Argentina in June.

Now head coach Andy Robinson is hoping to build towards their November Tests with a training camp at St. Andrews between August 9-11. Scotland kick off their autumn schedule against the All Blacks at Murrayfield on November 13.

"St. Andrews is an important camp for us. It's about restating our collective values and our commitment to strive for improvement," Robinson said. "I was pleased with how we ended last season but now our focus has to be on how we start this season, especially our opening game against the All Blacks."

Robinson has also recalled fullback Rory Lamont after a knee injury, although the Toulon player is also suffering from a hand injury picked up during pre-season. Another player on Robinson's radar, but not selected, is Clermont flanker Jason White, who is set for a long-awaited return from a leg injury.

"I have not invited Jason to the St. Andrews camp as I think the priority for Jason at the moment is to concentrate on his pre-season duties at Clermont Auvergne after the leg injury he suffered last season," Robinson said. "I have spoken to Jason and I know how determined he is to be part of our plans this season.

"We will be closely monitoring form over the opening weeks of the season and there will be opportunities for those out of the squad for St. Andrews to be considered for the autumn Tests."
