Harlequins centre Ollie Smith has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury suffered during last weekend's Aviva Premiership loss to Saracens.

The former England midfielder, who returned to the Premiership this season following a spell at Montpellier, will undergo surgery in the coming weeks before a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"Smith had just begun to find his best form since arriving at Quins in the summer after two years in France," a club statement read.

"The injury will see him ruled out for a number of months followed by rehabilitation. A further update will be given once Ollie has had surgery."
