London Irish winger Adam Thompstone has signed a new one-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

The 23-year-old, who has recently returned from a severe long-term ankle injury which kept him out of the game for 16 months, has played 29 games for the Exiles scoring 12 tries and has also represented England U20s.

Thompstone, an Academy graduate, returned to action in January against the Ospreys in the Heineken Cup and has yet to open his account for the season - but is hoping to use his new deal as a springboard to further success.

"I am delighted to be staying with London Irish for another year," he said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and want to use the remainder of this year and next year to get back to my very best form, and help the side challenge for silverware."

Irish head coach Toby Booth also welcomed the news and hopes the winger can deliver on the promise he showed before being struck down by injury. "We are thrilled that Adam has signed for a further season. He is a strong, quick, agile player and one of the best finishers in England," said Booth. "The Aviva Premiership is incredibly competitive so it is therefore imperative that you hold on to your best young players, so to have Adam re-sign is great news for the club. "
