Rebels fly-half Danny Cipriani has said that he would welcome the opportunity to join Toulon as cover for Jonny Wilkinson during this year's Rugby World Cup.

The headline-grabbing former England international, who is currently out of favour with the Rebels in the wake of some high-profile disciplinary issues, believes a short-term move to the big-spending Top 14 club in the south of France will help him continue to re-build his career.

"It would be a great opportunity," Cipriani told The Times. "Super 15 doesn't start till next February and I will have this autumn. I need to keep playing. I want more game time. So we'll see what happens hopefully over the next couple of days."

Toulon have confirmed that they are considering the 23-year-old Cipriani as potential short-term signing despite his recent disciplinary problems, although a permanent deal appears unlikely after the Rebels reiterated this week that they expect him to honour his current contract that runs until 2012.

The Rebels stood Cipriani down recently having "lost confidence" in the playmaker, prompting speculation that he may move elsewhere, with Premiership side Bath reportedly approached about a possible move. The former Wasps star was punished after staying out late following a defeat by the Waratahs in Sydney, having been warned earlier in the season for taking a bottle of alcohol from a Melbourne nightclub.

But Cipriani remains positive and is determined to force his way back into the Rebels mix. "The best is yet to come," he said. "Super 15 rugby is an incredible standard and playing with and against some of the best players in the world can only make me better."
