Gloucester have added 19-year-old second-row Dave Markham to their ranks for the 2011-12 season.

Markham joins from Leicester, having made the switch to the Tigers after coming through the Sale Sharks academy. He made his debut in the Anglo-Welsh Cup at Exeter in January 2011 and took the 'A' League title later on in the season.

Gloucester are building a good crop of young players and Bryan Redpath has already publicly backed Freddie Burns to fill the void left at fly-half by departing Welsh international Nicky Robinson.

Markham will join his side in time for pre-season training and is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"Gloucester is a great club in a great rugby community and it's a chance for me to explore the game more and test myself against some of the best players in the country," Markham said.

"It's about developing myself as a person and as a player. Gloucester have shown in the past that they're not afraid to give young players a chance and hopefully I'll get some game time as the season goes on.

"I'm really looking forward to meeting the rest of the squad and putting in the hard work in training. But especially working with guys like Alex Brown, Jim Hamilton and Will James and learning from them, developing my game and making the most of any opportunities that come my way."
