London Irish have completed the signing of England Under-20 skipper Alex Gray on a two-year deal.

The No.8, a product of the Newcastle academy, made his Aviva Premiership debut for the Falcons last season, playing eight games and bagging a try on debut against Harlequins.

Gray then captained England to the final of the Junior World Championship in Italy - where they were narrowly beaten 33-22 by New Zealand's Baby Blacks.

Exiles boss Toby Booth praised the youngster's athleticism and stature, having sought to bring him to the Madejski for some time.

"Alex is a player that we have kept a close eye on for a couple of years now," he said. "He is an exceptional athlete and has an impressive array of skills for a back-row forward. He is continuously striving to improve as a player and has leadership skills beyond his years."
