Leicester Tigers' squad is set to come under even greater strain with the news that prop Kieran Brookes could be out until the New Year.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Tigers from Newcastle Falcons in the summer, damaged his foot on his return to Kingston Park at the weekend in a game that Leicester won 27-26. The Tigers are await a specialists report but director of rugby Richard Cockerill expects the tight-head to be missing for at least three to four months.

Tight-head props Dan Cole and Martin Castrogiovanni are at the World Cup with England and Italy respectively while experienced prop Julian White will miss Saturday's clash with champions Saracens with a shoulder injury.

"Julian White has hurt his shoulder and he will, hopefully, be back in a couple of weeks," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "Kieran Brookes has done some damage to his foot after someone fell and crushed it. We are waiting for specialist opinion but it is looking like he could be out for at least three or four months.

"The amount of players missing (at the World Cup) is one thing, but our injury situation is horrendous and it has become beyond a joke."

No.8 Thomas Waldrom has flown out to New Zealand as injury cover for Nick Easter while Tigers second-row George Skivington is a doubt for the match against Sarries due to a bang to the head. Forwards Geoff Parling, Craig Newby and Jordan Crane are also on the sidelines for the Tigers. However Mathew Tait and Matt Smith are set to return to action.
