Care apologises after bar incident

England scrum-half Danny Care was arrested on Saturday morning, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper reports that Care was arrested and fined on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly early on Saturday morning following Harlequins' defeat to Toulouse. Surrey police were called to the Noir Bar, Weybridge, after reports of an unconnected disturbance. The scrum-half was released after two hours in a police cell and fined £80.

"Officers attended the scene and ensured those present were dispersed," a police spokesman said. "A man in his twenties was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. He was arrested and later issued with a fixed penalty notice."

Quins boss Conor O'Shea has said the matter will be "dealt with" and Care has apologised for his actions in a statement to the Daily Telegraph. "It was a silly thing to do - I accept that and apologise completely," he told the paper. "It was a tough game and I was out with the team and friends but should have remembered that as a professional player I am on duty throughout the season and need to set a better example to the fans.

"I totally accept the police fine and am glad that there is no further action on that front. I will, of course, co-operate fully with the Quins process. I will not make any further comment until that is all complete."

Care was reprimanded by Stuart Lancaster, head of England's interim coaching team, in a phone conversation on Monday. The pair have known each other since Care's days in the Leeds academy.
