The England Saxons have added Saracens scrum-half Ben Spencer to their squad after Tigers' half-back Micky Young was hit with a citing.

Young has been cited for allegedly making contact with the eyes or eye area of Aironi wing Giulio Toniolatti during Saturday's Heineken Cup match at Welford Road. Cup organisers European Rugby Cup (ERC) received the complaint from citing commissioner John Kirk.

The complaint will be heard on Friday, with the 23-year-old Young set to face a ban of at least 12 weeks if found guilty of the offence.

Saracens scrum-half Spencer has been called into the England Saxons squad as cover for Young. RFU regulation 19.5.2 does not permit a cited player "to play in an international or any other match governed by IRB regulation 17 until the final determination of the case".

Spencer, 19, joined the Saxons squad in Devon today as they prepare to face the Ireland Wolfhounds at Exeter on January 28. England Saxons coach Jon Callard said: "We've discussed the matter with both Leicester and Saracens and felt we needed to act decisively by bringing in an extra scrum-half as a precaution until the outcome of the case is known."

Spencer, who is a member of the England Under-20 squad, has made 19 first-team appearances since joining Saracens from Cambridge last summer.
