Ashton frustrated by try drought

Winger Chris Ashton admits a lack of tries is becoming a source of irritation as England prepare to take on France in the Six Nations.

Ashton has yet to score a try this tournament after struggling to see the ball in the opening two matches against Scotland and Italy. However, with an improved performance against Wales last start, the Northampton man is hopeful an end to his drought is near.

"It affects me badly when I don't score a try in a game," said Ashton. "I should not let that happen but it does. I get quite obsessive about it.

"I guess it comes with being a wing because just like a goalscorer in football, you are there to score tries. I set high standards for myself and I want to reach them. The coaches tell me not to worry because it is about the team playing well and winning but I want to have more impact on games."

Ashton appeared in his international debut against France two years ago, and is now looking forward to inflicting World Cup revenge on Les Bleus.

"We have not been attacking as we would have liked, but we have the opportunity to put that right," said Ashton. "I would love to score a try against France and it is our first chance against them since the World Cup. I want a bit of payback for what happened in the quarter-final: it was the biggest loss of my career, devastating."
