Toulon and former England second-row Simon Shaw has signed a new one-year contract with the Top 14 side.

Shaw arrived at Toulon back in November after calling time on his career at Wasps after spending 14 seasons with the London side. Shaw was originally contracted at Toulon until the end of the current campaign but after impressing alongside the likes of Bakkies Botha in the second-row, Shaw has been rewarded with an extension to his current deal which makes him the oldest player in the Top 14 next term.

Toulon face Biarritz in the final of the Amlin Challenge Cup on Friday at the Stoop but they have already started looking ahead to next season. One of their numerous signings is Wales prop Gethin Jenkins and he was unveiled by the French giants on Tuesday.

Jenkins revealed to the press that he did strongly consider swapping the Cardiff Blues for Bath but in the end the lure of Toulon proved to be too much.

"Had I signed for Bath, I would have stayed closer to home but honestly, I wanted to take in a new challenge," Jenkins said. "Toulon offers me that opportunity to experience the next stage in my career and I intend to enjoy it."
