Worcester Warriors new boy Josh Matavesi is eager to be unleashed in this Friday's third leg of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s at Kingsholm.

Fijian international Matavesi was signed from Racing Metro at the end of last season and after playing in the Top 14 Orange alongside the likes of Juan Martin Hernandez and Francois Steyn, he is keen on trying his hand at England's domestic game. Worcester boss Richard Hill is yet to reveal his hand but Matavesi, who was born and raised in Cornwall, is eager to kick-start his career at Sixways.

"I haven't heard a lot about it from the coaches, but I would be interested in playing in the J.P. Morgan 7s," said Matavesi. "Being of Fijian descent, sevens is the type of thing that's in our blood. It suits my game as well because I like playing in space and looking to get an offload away.

"I actually played for Exeter in the J.P. Morgan Sevens two years ago and I really enjoyed it. If the opportunity came to play again then I would jump at the chance but it is up to the coaches. I just can't wait to represent Worcester for the first time.

"From what I have seen at Worcester, I reckon we could have a decent team - there a few guys here with a lot of pace."

After scoring the lowest amount of tries in the Aviva Premiership last season, the Warriors were crying out for some midfield spark - something Matavesi believes he can add.

"I like to think I can bring flair and can add to the attacking style Worcester have been looking for," he said. "I have got a physical presence and an offloading game to go with it. When I was invited by Richard to have a look at the facilities and it is clear they have got one of the best set-ups in the country.

"The way everything is run is so organised - the attention to detail with a full-time nutritionist here is staggering. Everything is in place for the club to be successful, and I would not have come to a club that did not want to achieve things.

"I know what Worcester's reputation was in the past for playing forward-style rugby, but it will be a different story this year - I promise."
