Sale Sharks boss Steve Diamond is targeting a "couple of props" in a bid to bolster their options in the front-row.

The Sharks, languishing at the foot of the Aviva Premiership table with six defeats out of six to their name, have front-rowers Henry Thomas and Alasdair Dickinson sidelined with long-term injuries. In their place, Eifion Lewis-Roberts and Tony Buckley have shouldered the bulk of the responsibility for the two prop positions and the Sale CEO is keen on bringing in some more cover.

And Diamond's quest for a new prop is likely to focus on the southern hemisphere. "We are looking at a couple of props at the moment," Diamond told the Manchester Evening News. "Because of the way the market is here we are looking abroad and we hope to have something sorted in the next few weeks.

"What we are after is top-drawer players in terms of strengthening our front row and hopefully we can bring in both a really quality tight head and a loose head. We just need a bit of beef and ballast in our scrum but we are after quality not quantity.

"In terms of other positions, though we have had injuries I'm happy that we've got strength in depth there."
