Northampton centre Dom Waldouck remains confident the Saints can overcome the odds and qualify for the knockout stages of the Heineken Cup.

Northampton face Castres at Franklin's Gardens on Friday as they look to get their Heineken Cup hopes back on track. The Saints are third in Pool 4 on 10 points, behind leaders Ulster on 15 and Castres on 10.

But Waldouck hopes big results against Castres and Glasgow, where the Saints travel to eight days after facing the Top 14 side, will see them upset the odds and squeeze into the quarter finals of the competition.

"It's a huge competition for us and we're still alive," Waldouck told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo. "We need two big results in the next two weekends and hopefully we can take some momentum into the Heineken Cup and into the rest of the season."

Northampton go into their clash with Castres on the back of a 30-19 victory over Exeter and Waldouck admits recent criticisms of the team had helped them turn around their form.

"We've had a lot of criticism in the media," he said. "We'd lost by a point the week before to the top team in the Premiership (Saracens) and we'd come under a lot of criticism so it was important to go out on Saturday and prove that we believe in ourselves.

"There aren't many trophies won in January so we can make a push at the end of the season."

Ken Pisi has been ruled out of the clash with Castres after suffering an ankle injury in the Saints' win over Exeter. Although he is expected to return within a week or so.
