Former England captain Martin Johnson has been banned from driving for 49 days after being caught speeding at 107mph.

The World Cup-winning lock was halted on the M5 near Bridgwater. The Leicester Mercury says Johnson "was spotted 'overtaking all other traffic'" and has been hit with a £800 fine alongside his driving ban.

Stephen Gooden, defending Johnson, said: "He admitted his guilt at the first available opportunity and co-operated with police. When he was stopped, the traffic was light and he was in a very powerful vehicle

"He wasn't going to risk his wife, daughter and son's safety. He understands the seriousness of the matter."
