As widely expected, prop Alex Corbisiero has been ruled out of England's opening autumn Test against Australia because of the knee injury he sustained a fortnight ago.
"Alex has not got back to on-field running yet, so he's going to need more time," said England coach Stuart Lancaster. "He'll be a big miss. You saw the quality of his performances [against Australia for the Lions] coming on the back of an Argentina tour.
"He got himself into the Test team and made a significant impact as a starting loose-head."
But Lancaster said that "Mako Vunipola has improved this year with the new scrumming laws and Joe Marler was the pick of our forwards in Argentina, so we are very strong in that position. I have no concerns about the two guys we have got".
There was better news regarding Dylan Hartley, David Wilson and Henry Trinder. "They're making good progress and I'm pretty optimistic that both will be available to train fully, definitely by Thursday. Henry ran flat out on Friday and it's great to have him back.
"We have two days to go in training and everything to play for."
