England coach Stuart Lancaster has sprung a massive selection surprise by dropping Dan Cole for Saturday's Test against Argentina.

Cole has started 39 of England's last 41 Tests but Lancaster has named David Wilson at tight-head for the Pumas. Alongside Wilson, Joe Marler is promoted to the starting line-up, replacing the injured Mako Vunipola, with Dylan Hartley starting at hooker.

Pumas to shock England?

  • You can get odds of 6/1 on Argentina to come away from Twickenham with a win. Not a bad price given they have named a team packed with experience.

But if you think England will come away with a convincing triumph, then Lancaster's men to win by 13+ points is priced at 8/11

It will be Hartley's first start for England since February 2013 with Tom Youngs, Cole and Alex Corbisiero providing back-up to the front-row from the replacements. Joe Launchbury and Courtney Lawes continue in the locks with Geoff Parling named on the bench.

And there is another change in the backs. Both Christian Wade and Marland Yarde are out injured, with the former previously tipped to start on Saturday, so Ben Foden starts on one flank with Chris Ashton on the other. Saracens' Alex Goode comes into the replacements.

Billy Twelvetrees keeps his place at inside centre with Joel Tomkins retained at No.13. Lee Dickson continues his partnership with Owen Farrell in the half-backs.

Lancaster explained the selection, saying: "Dylan gets a deserved chance at hooker with Tom Youngs on the bench after the safe arrival of his first child this morning. Rob Webber remains on standby.

"Christian Wade was in contention for a start but his hamstring tightened up in training and unfortunately he hasn't recovered sufficiently in time to be considered for Saturday. Marland Yarde failed a fitness test on a hip injury sustained last weekend this morning so Ben Foden gets his chance with Alex Goode on the bench. Ben has had a full week's training on the wing, he is a great finisher and in form so it's a great option for us.

"The Twickenham crowd was superb against Australia and we were pleased to get the victory but we know there's more to come from this team and we are looking forward to building on that momentum for this weekend."
