London Welsh have denied they are contemplating changing the club's name to integrate the team into its new base in Oxfordshire.

The Exiles played at the Kassam Stadium last season in their debut campaign in the Aviva Premiership and despite relegation to the Championship, they have opted to remain in Oxford rather than returning to their traditional home at Old Deer Park.

Reports earlier this week suggested London Welsh were contemplating changing their name to fit in with their new surroundings, but the club have firmly denied these suggestions saying in a statement they were "categorically stating that it has no plans to make any such change."

The statement added: "London Welsh has made a commitment to Oxfordshire by continuing to play its home games at the Kassam Stadium and moving its off the field administration to Oxford, but efforts to integrate the club into Oxfordshire do not extend to a change of name."

And the club have also hit out at the media reports which suggested a name change was on the agenda. They added: "The club is extremely disappointed by the inaccurate reporting in some sections of the media stemming from a recent interview given by London Welsh chairman Bleddyn Phillips, despite the subject of a name change being unequivocally ruled out in said interview."
