Sam Egerton, the Oxford University scrum half, was suspended for 15 weeks following his red card in last week's Varsity match.

Egerton became the first person to be sent off in the 141-year history of the fixture when he was adjudged to have gouged Nick Viljoen, the Cambridge University forward, shortly after scoring his side's third try.

The 22-year-old law student pleaded guilty to "making contact with the eye or eye area" of Viljoen. The suspension will run from December 12 to March 26, 2014.

Despite playing most of the second half with 14 men following Egerton's dismissal, Oxford went on to complete their fourth successive victory.
