Robshaw set to retain England captaincy

Chris Robshaw is set to be confirmed as England captain for the forthcoming Six Nations.

Robshaw was Stuart Lancaster's first captain when he took over England on an interim basis and, when available, has held the role ever since. There were noises before the recent autumn internationals that Tom Wood may replace Robshaw as skipper, in part due to the presence of fetcher Matt Kvesic, but Robshaw saw off the threat of Kvesic and retained the captaincy.

Lancaster will unveil England's captain on Friday and said "I do not think there will be a surprise", paving the way for Robshaw to retain the honour.

"Part of the challenge before the autumn was Matt [Kvesic]," Lancaster said of his decision over the captaincy before the autumn internationals. "While he is working hard and we want him in the camp, his side Gloucester are near the bottom of the table.

"Chris did really well in the November series, both as a player and captain. He improved in the areas we had asked him to, such as his speed over the floor and his decision-making at the breakdown, not going into every one trying to turn every ball over. He has a very high work-rate, good handling skills and his leadership was another step up."
