Discarded England winger Chris Ashton has revealed it is "killing him" not running out in the Six Nations.

Ashton has struggled for form on the Test stage this season but has faired better for club side Saracens. England boss Stuart Lancaster has preferred Jonny May and Jack Nowell on the flanks during the Six Nations and it seems unlikely Ashton will be able to force his way back into selection ahead of their round three match against Ireland.

"Playing for England is why I play rugby," Ashton told the Evening Standard. "It is killing me not to be involved in the matches and I am desperate to get back. Everyone wants to be involved in big games for England and also for their clubs and I am excited about Sarries still being in the Heineken Cup and pushing for top spot in the Premiership."

Ashton starts for Saracens against Sale on Friday evening where he will attempt to show the England coaches he has improved on the areas highlighted by the coaching staff.

"The England coaches have told me they want me to keep working on my all-round play, being bang on with my defence and making sure there is also that bit of X-factor. The coaches watch every game and it's about me getting things right all the time."
