England's Danielle Waterman marked her comeback from a 14-month injury lay-off with a try as they beat Italy 24-0 in Rovato to take second place in the Six Nations.

Gary Street's side were left to rue their opening-round defeat to France, who claimed the Grand Slam on Friday night by edging out Ireland 19-15 in Pau. England completed the competition with four wins and the Triple Crown, thanks to tries from Waterman, Emily Scarratt, Laura Keates and Amber Reed.

Fullback Waterman was back in action after more than a year battling knee trouble, and marked her return with a well-taken score.

Wales' 25-0 home victory over Scotland completed the final round of fixtures, to consign the Scots to the wooden spoon. Ireland's defeats to France and England left them third in the final standings, with Italy's two wins leaving them fourth.
