Danny Cipriani is reportedly on the verge of being handed an England recall ahead of their summer tour to New Zealand.

Cipriani has excelled for Sale in recent weeks and helped guide them to an impressive 55-12 win over Exeter on Saturday in front of the watching Andy Farrell. He last played for England in 2008 and has since journeyed to play for the Melbourne Rebels.

But this season at Sale he has shown signs of being back to his playmaking best while previously perceived defensive frailties also seem to have been shored up.

Reports in the Sunday Telegraph say Cipriani is "emerging as a genuine contender" for England's tour with the squad announced next month.

England's first match of their three-Test tour against the All Blacks will see Stuart Lancaster pick a team without those involved in the Aviva Premiership final. That could work in Cipriani's favour as first-choice fly-half Owen Farrell has a good chance of being involved in the final as Saracens are leading the league leading Stuart Lancaster to look elsewhere.

In England's final three matches of the 2014 Six Nations, George Ford found himself on the bench but his form has stuttered in recent weeks while the other option would be Northampton's Stephen Myler, who may be involved in the final.
