Danny Cipriani is hoping his current form will be enough to secure a place in England's squad for the summer tour of New Zealand.

Cipriani has shone for Sale in their charge into the top six of the Aviva Premiership which has led to calls from some for the fly-half to earn a Test recall having last played for England in 2008. Cipriani's cause is helped by the timing of England's first match against the All Blacks, a game that comes just seven days after the Aviva Premiership final.

Stuart Lancaster has previously said he will not pick players who are involved in that game, a match that could see Owen Farrell lining up for Saracens, and that would mean England would have to look elsewhere for their starting fly-half against the All Blacks which could pave the way for Cipriani.

"It all depends how the coaches look at it, there will be latecomers into the squad and there will be people who are new because of the way the Premiership is laid out for the rest of the season," Cipriani told the BBC. "This would be a good time to start, for the World Cup, to try to get back into the squad.

"But we have two games left this season to put in a performance for the boys who are leaving. We've got to show them the respect they deserve, and then after that perhaps we can talk and discuss that. And hopefully my form's been consistent enough throughout the season to warrant a place."

Sale boss Steve Diamond has also added to the clamour for Cipriani to get a recall, telling the Daily Mail: "I think he would relish the opportunity [to go to New Zealand] then it is down to him and how he is managed. Stuart is due to see me and I will tell him that, as we have done for the last six or seven months. Danny definitely deserves a shot."
