As widely predicted, Danny Cipriani has been recalled by England for the first time in six-and-a-half years ahead of the the summer tour of New Zealand.

Cipriani has been included in a 20-player training squad featuring players from those clubs whose seasons have finished. He may get a chance to play against the Barbarians on June 1 or he could be fast-tracked for the first Test against New Zealand on June 7.

Such is the logistical nightmare Stuart Lancaster is facing due to the end-of-season run in, he will name another batch of players in the mix for a spot in the squad on Monday, following the Aviva Premiership semi-finals, and will then announce the finalised touring party on May 26.

This 20-man party includes 10 uncapped players with Worcester's Chris Pennell getting the nod alongside Newcastle's Kieran Brookes, Gloucester's Dan Robson and Henry Trinder, Sale's Tommy Taylor, Exeter's Luke Cowan-Dickie, Dave Ewers, Sam Hill and Henry Slade. Sale's New Zealand-born lock Michael Paterson is given the nod as he qualifies for England through his grandfather.

Ben Morgan and Jonny May are included after their involvement during the Six Nations while Freddie Burns, Matt Kvesic, Marland Yarde and Tom Johnson also get the nod. Billy Twelvetrees is included though he is expected to miss the first Test against New Zealand due to injury.

"The New Zealand tour and the game against the Barbarians give us a chance to look at a wide group of players, some of whom are well known to us from the Elite Player Squad, others who we will get to work with for the first time next week," Lancaster said. "That is an exciting challenge for us coaches and it's a great opportunity for those players to put a marker down for selection for the tour and the Barbarians game."
