Bristol clear the decks after promotion failure
June 7, 2014
Bristol have confirmed 21 players are leaving following their failure to achieve promotion to the Premiership.
Some players are out of contract while others are being released, with former skipper Iain Grieve and England Under-20 captain Callum Braley heading the list. Tristan Roberts, Redford Pennycook, Bryan Rennie, Will Davis, Sammy Speight, Ollie Hayes, Steve Uren, Bruce Douglas, Adam D'Arcy and Rupert Freestone have also been released.
Bristol had confirmed George Watkins, Adam Hughes and Ruki Tipuna were joining other clubs earlier in the week.
James Grindal is retiring as are Mariano Sambucetti and James Merriman , while Stuart McInally has returned to Edinburgh following the conclusion of his loan spell. Centre Fautua Otto and back Errie Claassens were released early from their contracts in May.
Although Bristol are well funded, changes were needed after another failure in the play-offs.
