Stuart Lancaster has named a 55-man squad for a training camp in Loughborough which begins on Sunday and lasts until Wednesday.
The main purpose of the camp will be to assess England's 3-0 series loss in New Zealand while it will also give Lancaster and the rest of his coaches the opportunity to run the rule over their players ahead of unveiling the new Elite Player Squad in October.
There are a number of players included in the group who missed out on the tour to New Zealand through injury - Anthony Allen, Alex Corbisiero, Tom Croft, George Ford, Mako Vunipola and Christian Wade - while Jackson Wray makes his first appearance. Tom Youngs returns after missing the tour to New Zealand due to personal reasons.
"This camp will give us a chance to get the wider squad together and an opportunity to review the New Zealand tour," Lancaster said. "It will be an important few days for us in terms of complementing the work that the clubs have been doing in pre-season with their strength and conditioning but also from a rugby point of view.
The next time we meet will be two weeks before we play New Zealand in the autumn Internationals so this time together is vital."
And Lancaster also praised the role of Premier Rugby and the RFU in allowing him to delay the announcement of his new EPS. Last summer Lancaster named his squad in August but after talks between the various stakeholders in the English game, he has been allowed to delay this to allow him to see the players in action at the start of the season.
Lancaster said: "In collaboration with Premiership Rugby we have been given the flexibility to announce the England Senior and Saxons squads in October, much closer to our four international matches in November.
"We appreciate their support of our proposal which enables time to assess the first part of the club season and therefore select players who are in form leading into an important series for us. It also allows an opportunity for players not involved in the training camp this week to put down a marker in terms of their performances ahead of the squad announcement."
