Flanker Mat Gilbert has left Bath after two years in pursuit of more first-team rugby.

The 28-year-old made 19 first team appearances for Bath, scoring three tries, since joining from Scarlets in 2012.

"I'm sad to be leaving Bath Rugby, but I need more game time to keep on improving as a player," said Gilbert in a statement released by the club. "It's been a thoroughly enjoyable two years here. I've worked with some great coaches and played alongside some great players, and I know they'll go on to achieve their aims."

Head coach Mike Ford praised the back-rower, saying: "Mat's a recognised talent in the game, so it's unfortunate for him that he's competing for a playing spot with some other very talented players here at Bath. I know he'll go on to continue to succeed in the game, and we wish him the best of luck in the future."

In addition to his time with the Scarlets and Bath, Gilbert has won 11 caps for the England Deaf Rugby team.

Bath kicked off the new season with a 20-29 victory over Sale at AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday.
