Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall has backed Owen Farrell to return stronger and win the England No.10 jersey back from Bath's George Ford.

Farrell started England's November series at fly-half but, after uninspiring outings against New Zealand and South Africa, lost his place to Ford, who had made neat cameos off the bench.

McCall accepted that Farrell had not been at his best of late but has utter faith that he had the ability and character to return to England's starting line-up before long.

"He's unbelievably phlegmatic, he deals with these things incredibly well," said McCall. "Everyone knows he was a bit rusty going into the autumn series, he only played one game for us.

"He's going to play a lot of rugby for us over the next couple of months and hopefully going into the Six Nations, with him and George Ford eyeing for that position, he will have a lot more rugby under his belt.

"Every player wants to be supported. The coaches and I will always talk to every player. But he has a strong mind of his own which is a huge strength of his and he'll be looking forward to playing for us this weekend."
