England captain Chris Robshaw faces between three to four weeks on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

There were fears Robshaw would require surgery on the injury but after consulting a specialist, the openside has been served a boost with the prognosis better than first feared.

For Harlequins, he is unlikely to play again until the New Year and will probably sit out their games against Leinster, Newcastle Falcons, Northampton Saints, London Welsh and Leicester Tigers. With Robshaw injured, Luke Wallace and Jack Clifford are expected to vie for the openside spot.

The news of Robshaw's prognosis will come as a relief for Stuart Lancaster and England. There were fears he would be forced to sit out the opening two rounds of the Six Nations but he should be back at least a fortnight before their match against Wales on February 6.

Robshaw has captained England since Lancaster took over in 2012 and was an ever-present in their four-Test November series.
