The UK press pack have held nothing back as they reacted to England's loss to Australia, labelling the loss as "humiliating" and "shambolic", while others called for Stuart Lancaster's head.

England became the unlucky record holders of being the first host nation to be knocked out of the tournament before the quarter-finals after they capitulated against Australia.

The side had already felt the wrath of the UK press a week earlier after they were shocked by a fast finishing Wales side, and have been hit hard again with their performance labelled an "ungodly mess from start to finish".

"END OF THE WORLD", the Daily Star blasted across their backpage, while the Sunday Telegraph emblazoned "Humiliated on home turf" across their paper.

"Only the worst hosts leave their own party this early," the Daily Mail wrote, as they continued onto describe the England's loss as "pathetic. They went out with a whimper."

While the side was lambasted by the media, Lancaster was the target of many reports with several papers questioning his future as England head coach, with the Telegraph writing simply: "Lancaster would not fall on his sword tonight but it is very difficult indeed to see him weathering this storm."
