Dallaglio questions timing of fixtures
May 10, 2000

Wasps captain and Scrum columnist Lawrence Dallaglio has suggested that Northampton's selection of their second string for their recent league match may upset some other clubs, especially those looking for European Cup places.

In week in which the Allied Dunbar Premiership match fell between their European Cup semi-final and the Tetley's Bitter Cup final, Northampton coach John Steele chose to put out what was effectively a second XV. In addition, the league encounter match was against Wasps, the Saints opponent's in this Saturday's final.

England No.8 and Six Nations player of the year Dallaglio said: "The whole business of fielding weakened sides is not being policed properly".

"They should never have been put in that position and, if the boot were on the other foot, we (Wasps) would probably have done the same"

Understandably a full strength Wasps side won comfortably 12-54 at Franklins Gardens on Tuesday evening against a Northampton side missing 14 players from the side that beat Llanelli.
