Queensland fullback Chris Latham's bid for test selection received a boost on Thursday when he was named the runaway winner of the Australian Super 12 Player of the Series Award.

Latham, 24, polled 22 points, nine ahead of Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Brumbies outside flanker Stirling Mortlock and New South Wales (NSW) Waratahs flanker Phil Waugh.

NSW pair Jason Little (12 points) and Matthew Burke (10) were fourth and fifth.

Burke and Latham will be opposing fullbacks on Saturday at Sydney Football Stadium as NSW take on Queensland in a national championship match.

Australia will name a 26-man squad next Wednesday in preparation for the opening test against Argentina in Brisbane on June 17.

There has been speculation that Latham, who scored seven tries this year and moved to Queensland from NSW in 1998 to escape Burke's shadow, will be named at fullback, pushing Burke out to the wing.

ACT Brumbies coach Eddie Jones, who took his side to the final where they lost by one point to Canterbury on Saturday, won the Coach of the Series Award.
