Blue Bulls pick strong side for Bulldogs clash
August 31, 2000

Coach Eugene van Wyk selected a full-strength Blue Bulls team to take on the Bulldogs in East London on Sunday. The Bulls will field ten Springboks, most notably Joost van der Westhuizen, Os du Randt (picture) and Wium Basson.

Du Randt (thigh) and Basson (jaw) were sidelined with injuries, while Van der Westhuizen had little opportunity to play for the Bulls because of Springbok duty.

Last year the Bulls took a surprising defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs, but this time around Van Wyk didn't take any chances. Four changes have been made to the Bulls ouftit that beat the Pumas in the match before the three-week break

Van der Westhuizen replaces Norman Jordaan, while Hannes Venter will also warm the bench as Rayno Hendricks will turn out on the left wing.

Basson, at the expense of Draadkar de Lange, will lock the scrum with Derick Grobbelaar, while Du Randt replaces Christo Bezuidenhout in what will be his debut for the Bulls.

The team: Casper Steyn; McNeil Hendricks, Danie van Schalkwyk, Tiaan Joubert, Rayno Hendricks; Franco Smith, Joost van der Westhuizen; Schutte Bekker, Anton Leonard, Ruben Kruger (capt), Wium Basson, Derick Grobbelaar, Piet Boer, Naka Drotske, Os du Randt. Substitutes: Jannie Brooks, Christo Bezuidenhout, Pierre Ribbens, Draadkar de Lange; Norman Jordaan, Marius Goosen, Hannes Venter.
