Ulster's Williams to resign
August 31, 2000

Ulster's director of coaching harry Williams has announced that he will stand down from the post when his contract expires at the end of the season.

He decision to make the announcement now is to allow the Ulster Branch plenty of time to search for his replacement. Williams is one of the most successful coaches Ulster has had, having led the team to four successive Interprovincial Championships between 1987 and 1991 and more recently to become the first Irish side to win The European Rugby Cup.

"My role was to develop a professional set-up for the team and players," he said on Thursday." I feel I have achieved that and it is now time to move on to new challenges and hand the reigns to someone who can take the Ulster team to the next level".
