Dawson happy with Lions captaincy link
September 11, 2000

Northampton scrum-half Matt Dawson has said it was a great compliment to be linked with the captaincy of the British Lions.

The England skipper was one of five players short-listed for the job at the weekend by the Lions management along with Lawrence Dallaglio, Martin Johnson, both former England captains, Wales' Dai Young and Ireland's Keith Wood.

Dawson, who is currently side-lined with a shoulder injury, told Scrum:

"If people put me up as a contender for the captaincy then that's a great compliment. Personally I'm looking to play for Northampton at the beginning of October, if that goes well I'm looking forward to the pre-Christmas internationals, then the Six Nations."
