Sarries postpone SA tour
May 1, 2001

Saracens end of season tour to South Africa has been postponed due to injuries and player unavailablity within the squad.

It had been planned that Saracens would travel to South Africa on 14th May until 26th May for a short tour.

An itinerary that would take in games against the Stormers and the Blue Bulls was being finalised, making Saracens the first club to play Super 12 sides in their season.

The tour would have given the Saracens squad the unique opportunity of competing against the quality and ability that Super 12 rugby offers.

"I have been in contact with Lions manager Donal Lenihan, who has expressed a concern about player burn out, and that he wasn't keen for any of the players selected to tour with the Lions, to be playing rugby the week before they depart. Clive Woodward (England manager) has also been in contact regarding Kyran Bracken captaining England against the Barbarians on Sunday the 27th May and their tour to USA and Canada" explains Francois Pienaar.

In addition to these concerns, injuries to Julian White, Paul Wallace and David Flatman, all front row players is a worry.
