Brumbies go global in search for new coach
May 18, 2001

The ACT Brumbies have announced they will cast their eye over the best coaching talent in England and New Zealand as they continue to search for a replacement for Wallaby-coach-to-be Eddie Jones.

On the eve of the Brumbies Super 12 semi-final showdown with the Reds ACT Rugby Union chief executive Mark Sinderberry confirmed to tThe Australian that the overseas hunt but stressed no formal discussions have taken place.

Sindberry also played down talk of an approach from former Springbok coach Nick Mallett but refused to rule it out as an option.

Current coach Eddie Jones will end his four year tenure in charge of the Brumbies when his promotion to international role is rubber-stamped early next month.

"We're sitting tight at the moment," Sinderberry told the newspaper. "It's difficult to do anything until such time as Eddie is officially announced (as the next Wallabies coach). We're just doing some background work at the moment."

Former Wallaby prop Ewen McKenzie was the Brumbies' first choice to take over from Jones, but the assistant Test coach has told ACT officials he does not want to relocate his family to Canberra.
