Sheridan wants shot of Shoguns
June 7, 2001

Bristol Shoguns forward Andrew Sheridan has requested a transfer just 12 months into a four-year contract.

The 20-stone, 6ft 5ins man mountain was a surprise call up to England's tour of South Africa last summer but started just six Premiership games last season.

Despite signing a deal last June to keep him at the Memorial Stadium until 2004, the 21-year-old former England Schools cap from Dulwich College is considering leaving, with Northampton and Harlequins reportedly ready to sign him.

Sheridan's agent Mike Burton confirmed: "He has handed in a transfer request because he can see his promising career going nowhere and he is going in search of work."

However, Bristol insist they will not release him and club spokesman Ian Bell said: ``Andrew is an integral part of the first team squad as can be seen by the number of games he played.

"We are interested in his long-term development, not in making a quick buck out of him. We have shown our commitment to him by giving him a four-year contract."

Burton is also currently engaged in finding a new club for Wales coach Lynn Howells, who quit his post at Cardiff at the end of the season.
