Moody opts to stay with Tigers

England flanker Lewis Moody has opted to stay with Leicester Tigers to see out his contact.

It was rumoured he may leave the club after the arrival of Josh Kronfeld effectively made him third chice number 7 behind the All Black legend and England's Neil Back.

Moody received glowing reviews of his performances on England's recent tour of North America and would not have been short of offers had he decided his future laid away from Welford Road.

"Obviously, you never know how these things will work out but I had a long chat with Dean and came away re-assured that I will be given my chance," said the 23-year-old.

"I have spent my entire career at Leicester and I didn't really want to leave but you have to look at the situation realistically.

"I have served my apprenticeship under Neil and my aim now is to get myself selected above Josh Kronfeld, which would be an achievement in itself.

"I enjoyed the England tour and having proved I can reach a certain level, I will be trying to achieve that level of consistency throughout the coming season."

Moody's chances of winning a first-team slot are increased because of the likelihood that both Back and fellow back-row Martin Corry - who was drafted onto the Lions tour on the eve of England's second Test against Canada - will be allowed extra time off on their return from Australia.
