Tigers may discipline Healey
July 17, 2001

Leicester Tigers are to investigate the comments made by Austin Healey during the Lions tour to judge whether he has damaged the club's reputation.

Leicester scrum-half Austin Healey targeted the country's male population and the weather among other things as well as blasting Wallabies lock Justin Harrison as a "plod" and a "plank" in his column for The Guardian.

And he could now face a disciplinary hearing by his club when he returns from Down Under. Leicester chief executive Peter Wheeler told The Daily Express, "Dean Richards and I have spoken about it. We clearly need to have a look at exactly what has been said.

"If we believe it damages the club's name or the game of rugby, we will take action against him.

"We are aware of the emotional difficulties these guys are under in these circumstances, but that is no excuse to make derogatory comments about individuals or countries."

He added, "There is no way the players should be writing columns in the press during Lions tours."
