Wigan full back shuns RFU advances
July 28, 2001

Rugby union target Kris Radlinski pledged his future to Wigan and immediately proceeded to demonstrate his importance to the club's increasingly impressive Super League title bid.

The 25-year-old Great Britain full-back, a certainty to face Australia in November's Ashes Series, continued his try spree to help Wigan to an impressive 36-12 victory over Hull at the JJB Stadium.

St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham, himself a target for Swansea and Wales, says he expects more high-profile league players to follow Jason Robinson and Henry Paul into union but Radlinski has firmly ruled out a switch.

He said: ``All I want to do is keep on playing for Wigan. I love rugby league and Wigan too much I am very happy where I am. I am under contract for next season and want to have this extended.

``It's a tremendous honour to be playing a great game for a club like Wigan.''

Radlinski's comments will come as great relief for beleaguered rugby league bosses and Great Britain coach David Waite, who is set to lose Cunningham and Iestyn Harris before the Kangaroo tour, and delighted Wigan coach Stuart Raper.

``It's terrific news, Kris is a great bloke,'' said Raper. ``When you see a game like that with some quality tries, it's no wonder he wants to stay.

``He's not going to play that other game and stick his head in those stupid rucks.''
